What is Ladybird Montessori?

Ladybird Montessori is an independent nursery group with three settings across Birmingham and Solihull in Sutton Coldfield (Wylde Green), Edgbaston (Selly Park), and Solihull. We offer a unique blend of Montessori and EYFS education for children from 3 months to 5 years, in warm, purposefully designed environments that feel like a home from home.

We welcome children from 9 months through to school age (5 years). Our nurseries are divided into three rooms to suit each stage of development: Baby Room (9 months–2 years), Toddler Room (2–3 years), and Pre-School (3–5 years).

We have three nurseries:
Sutton Coldfield at 321 Birmingham Road, Wylde Green, B72 1EH.
Edgbaston at 619 Pershore Road, Selly Park, B29 7HA.
Solihull at 6 St Helen’s Road, B91 2DA.

The Montessori method was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, a physician and scientist, and is based on decades of observation of how children naturally learn. It places the child at the centre of their own learning, encouraging curiosity, independence, and self-directed exploration through hands-on, carefully designed materials and environments. It is one of the most widely researched and respected approaches to early years education in the world.

We combine the Montessori philosophy with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework to create our own bespoke curriculum giving children the best of both. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, each child follows their own personalised learning journey at their own pace, guided by our qualified educators. We also go beyond the curriculum with specialist sessions including Makaton, Bilingualism, Rainbow Rhymes, Toddler Tennis, gardening, and cooking.

A typical day includes a morning Montessori work cycle with self-directed learning, outdoor exploration, specialist sessions (such as music, signing, or tennis), fresh, nutritious meals, and an afternoon of group activities focused on creativity and social skills. Every day is structured but flexible, with children free to engage with the activities that interest them most.

Beyond the core curriculum, we offer Bilinguising (bilingual singing to support early language development), British Sign Language (BSL) classes (sign-supported communication), Toddler Tennis, Rainbow Rhymes (music and movement), gardening, and cooking. These are built into the weekly programme and included as part of your child’s time with us.

Yes. We provide fresh, nutritious meals every day, with menus thoughtfully crafted to balance fruits, vegetables, and essential nutrients. We believe food plays a vital role in children’s development and actively involve children in learning about nutrition throughout the day and we help them be independent in this area, too.

Montessori works well for children of all temperaments and learning styles. Because the approach is child-led and individualised, it adapts naturally to each child rather than expecting every child to keep pace with a group. Research consistently shows Montessori children develop strong academic, social, and emotional skills and a genuine love of learning that lasts well beyond the early years.

Our Pre-School room (3–5 years) is specifically designed to support the transition to school. Children develop confidence, independence, early literacy and numeracy skills, and strong social and emotional foundations, all of which are key for thriving in a primary school environment. Our educators work closely with families to ensure each child is ready and excited for the next step.
